BSI British Standards launches Chinese Web portal

Press release - 8 April 2008

BSI British Standards today launched its new online standards portal, which will provide Chinese industry stakeholders and policy officials with access to international standards information and technical regulations. Developed jointly by BSI and the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China (SAC), the bilingual portal (www.standardsgateway.org) has been designed to facilitate international trade between the United Kingdom and the People’s Republic of China.

As well as a database containing 3000 standards records considered vital to successful trade between the two nations, the portal offers access to nearly 100,000 other national, regional and international standards and guidelines. There are also educational materials on the structure, history and operation of the United Kingdom and Chinese standards systems.

Launching the portal in Beijing with Mr Liu Pingjun, Administrator of SAC, Sir David John, Chair of BSI Group, said, “The new portal demonstrates the commitment of BSI and SAC to encouraging cross-border trade between the United Kingdom and China. This will prove a very useful tool for Chinese organizations and individuals wishing to find out more about standardization.”
